diapragm clutch mod |

I have had this query From: mdowzall To: Dave H

Subject: Diapram clutches and BT7
I Have A 3000 BT7 Mk II which has a Toyota 5 speed conversion. I would like to fit the Borg Beck Diaphram Clutch instead of the standard coil spring. Do you know if there is a diaphram clutch available that will mount up to the pitch circle dia of the coil spring std BT7 version. The BJ8 diaphram clutch is significantly smaller and will not fit without redrilling the mount holes. So far it seems the best alternative is to search out a BJ8 flywheel which I'm assuming will fit directly onto the BJ7 crank flange, however I'm having difficuty locating one of these
Any one got a better answer than mine?
When I converted mine I used the BJ8 clutch. Any good machine shop will be able to drill and tap the holes for you. At the same time it would be of benefit to lighten the flywheel and I usually get the clutch/flywheel/crankshaft assembly balanced.
If you find a BJ8 flywheel it would really need balancing to go with your crank so either way you need the engine stripped. Could be worth trying the racing boys as I think most of them run aluminium flywheels now.
If you have a friendly local motor factors they may be able to look up clutch diapragm sizes and pcd. You may be able to find some information on the internet try Borg and Beck or AP; either way I think you will need a bit of luck to track one down that fits without modification.
I will have a trawl round to see if I can pick up any info.
Good luck with the mod. Dave.
